Household Products

The two household products that I used routinely are Clorox Disinfected Wipes and Gorilla Glue, New Stronger-Faster
·      Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your household products?
-      Clorox Disinfected Wipes: I really surprised with safety of the use of these wipes because this chemical is not considered hazardous by the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). The only concerns are about the light irritation for eyes and skin in case of direct contact, breath problems in case of inhalation, and ingestion of liquid may cause irritation to mucous membranes and gastrointestinal tract, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. All of these concerns are not considered as real danger and very easy to manage it.

-      Gorilla Glue, New Stronger-Faster: Contains hazardous substances, harmful or fatal if swallowed, may cause gastro-intestinal blockage if swallowed, it has acute and chronic effect and should always be kept away from children and pets reach.

·      Did you decide to change any of your consumer behaviors based on your findings?
Regarding the Gorilla Glue, after I read the information and the effect that can cause, I disposed it directly, because I do not want to keep any harmful chemicals in my home that can be harmful especially I have a kid in home.
While the Clorox Disinfected Wipes, I’ll keep use it because it considered as safe household product.
·      Should everyone know about this risks and why don’t they?
All people should do search about the household products they use in order to check the hazardous level, ingredients, proper handling and disposing method,  and flammability level to avoid any harmful effect and keep safe.
Not all people know the whole information about the household products because they are affected by the benefits of the use, price offers, marketing attractions, and advertisements. Also the household product companies do not provide any information about the hazardous level or any warning sign of the use and the only concern is how much they can sell and how to be number 1 in the market.

  1. Ali, I actually forgot to include the Clorox Disinfecting wipes so I am glad that you brought it up. I was curious to know about that as well. It is nice knowing that I can still use them. You are right we should do a household search for the products that we use then we can pass this information on to others.

  2. Ali, I was surprised by how harmful gorilla glue is! I don't use it often but will definitely not buy it anymore. Glad you threw it out. I'll make sure to keep it away from my pup. I enjoyed reading your post because we all use similar products that we may have not investigated on our own.
