Personal Care Products

The two products that I use daily and choose to discuss are Dove bar soap and Dior Perfume

·       Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your personal care products?
-       Dove Bar Soap: according to the EWG.org, I think I am lucky to choose this product and use every day, Dove bar soap ingredients shows it has low overall hazard, no carcinogenic ingredient, no developmental & reproductive toxicity, low allergies and immunotoxicity.
The only concern regarding the ingredient of this product is (cocamidopropyl betaine) use restrictions, allergies/immunotoxicity, ecotoxicology, contamination concerns.

-       Dior Perfume: I am totally surprised with perfume that I use on daily bases, the overall hazard is moderate, allergies and immunotoxicity is moderate, low cancer concern, and low concern for developmental and reproductive toxicity.
The high concern in the ingredients which is fragrance that causes irritation (skin, eye, or lungs), and ecotoxicology.

·       Did you decide to change any of your consumer behaviors based on your findings?
Even with my finding I will change these products into safer product to eliminate any bad ingredients that can cause any harm on long term of use.
·       Should everyone know about these risks and, why don’t they?
Many people do not know the risks of these products, have an idea about the ingredients of these products or even they do not know about the chemicals which can be carcinogenic factors and plastic which can be toxic
All people should know these really helpful and useful information to eliminate the use of these products, live in safer environment and stop buying these products.
People are driven by the marketing tools and advertisements which show only the bright side of the use of the personal care products. The other reason are the companies, they do not provide any further information about the ingredients and the bad effect of the ingredients or even the container like carcinogenic risk or plastic toxicity.

  1. Ali I am glad that your products are not too bad. I was also concerned when seeing that the companies do not provide further information about their products. It is sad to see how people are just money hungry and could care less about the health of others. Why not just make it easier and use natural products that will not harm people? Again it is all about the money. If the good ingredients cost less then they will probably start using it.

  2. I use a dove beauty bar as well. I was also pleasantly surprised that the hazardous effects were very low. As for the fragrance, I am troubled by the fact that we have no idea what's really in the ingredient listed as "fragrance." I will also be reconsidering my daily use of perfume.
