Pesticides are
widely used in producing food to control pests such as insects, rodents, weeds,
bacteria, mold and fungus.
My last night
meal contains the following vegetables:
Lettuce have 52 pesticide
residues (Human Health Effects: 3-
known or probable carcinogens, 17 suspected hormone disruptors, 10 neurotoxins,
and 8 developmental or reproductive toxins), environmental effects (14 honeybee
toxins).
Sweet bell pepper has 53 Pesticide Residues (Human Health Effects: 3- known or probable carcinogens, 21 suspected
hormone disruptors, 10 neurotoxins, and 6 developmental or reproductive toxins),
environmental effects (18 honeybee toxins).
Tomato have 35 pesticide residues (Human Health Effects: 3- known or probable carcinogens, 12 suspected hormone
disruptors, 6 neurotoxins, and 3 developmental or reproductive toxins),
environmental effects (10 honeybee toxins).
I am shocked with the number of pesticides in our vegetables and fruits
in addition to the harmful effects on the human bodies.
As a public health practitioner, we need to take an action to aware our
communities about the pesticides and the effect, also we need to take an action
toward it to make our environment healthier.
